On the third day we took a 3 hour bus ride up to the mountains to the Roundhouses. Only in recent years it has become a tourist attraction and people actually live in them. The buildings are constructed layer by layer using only mix of raw earth, sand, lime, glutinous rice, and brown sugar, and reinforced with bamboo and wood. In one house lives one family with all relatives and in many generations. Some of the houses are older than 1000 years and still in a good condition. The houses were round to easier fend off bandits and warlords. A funny thing is that US saw the houses from satellite and at first thought they were nuke bases.
